Tottenham have accepted a Juventus loan proposal for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, with the Italy international expected to travel to Turin to complete the move.

Tottenham have accepted a loan offer from Juventus for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, according to BBC Sport. The proposed agreement includes a non-mandatory option for the Italian club to buy the 29-year-old for £8.6 million. Vicario is expected to travel to Turin to complete the remaining steps of a return to Serie A, but the transfer has not yet been described as completed.

The move follows a change in Vicario’s position at Tottenham. He lost his place under manager Roberto de Zerbi, who promoted Antonin Kinsky from the understudy role last season. De Zerbi has since confirmed that Kinsky will remain Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper for the new campaign, leaving Vicario behind him in the selection order.

Tottenham added another senior option in July by signing Martin Dubravka on a free transfer from Burnley. BBC Sport reported that Dubravka was recruited to provide competition and cover for Kinsky. That decision further reshaped a goalkeeper group in which Vicario had previously been a regular following his arrival from Empoli.

Vicario joined Tottenham from Empoli for £17.2 million in 2023 and has made 117 appearances for the north London club. The proposed loan would take him back to Italy and give Juventus an option, rather than an obligation, to make the transfer permanent for a fee considerably below the price Tottenham paid three years earlier.

Juventus turned to the Vicario deal after efforts to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez collapsed. Martinez has an injured finger and is currently unavailable for selection. Aston Villa, meanwhile, are reported to be closing in on a deal for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The status of those separate moves provides the immediate background to Juventus advancing its interest in Vicario.

The accepted offer also comes during a wider restructuring of Tottenham’s squad. The club has signed six players in what BBC Sport described as a club-record spending spree and is targeting two more attacking additions. Several former first-team players have been sold, loaned or released, including captain Cristian Romero, England international Djed Spence and Yves Bissouma. Vicario’s proposed departure is another part of that turnover, although his loan remains subject to completion of the move in Turin.
