Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson says unexplained neurological symptoms led to a hospital stay and affected his strength and coordination. He is working with specialists while the cause remains unknown.

New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson said Friday that he spent several days in hospital after experiencing neurological symptoms whose cause remains unknown. In a social media statement reported by BBC Sport, the 24-year-old explained the medical emergency behind his absence and said his recovery and long-term health were his priorities.

Henderson said he underwent extensive tests and medical assessment during his hospital stay. He described the results as reassuring, but said they had not established why the episode occurred. His statement did not identify a diagnosis or give a timetable for returning to football, leaving the duration of his absence uncertain.

The symptoms have affected his strength, coordination and some physical functions, Henderson said. He plans to continue working with specialists and physical therapists as he recovers. In the statement, he stressed his commitment to regaining full health, while making clear that his wellbeing takes precedence during the recovery process.

The Patriots first listed Henderson with an illness on their injury report on 29 October, and he missed their subsequent victory over the Miami Dolphins. NFL.com reported that he has not practised since 28 October. BBC Sport said he was expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, rather than reporting his absence as confirmed.

Henderson is in his second season with New England after being selected in the second round of the draft. Across six appearances this season, he has rushed for 203 yards and one touchdown from 52 attempts. NFL.com put his combined rushing and receiving production at 248 yards on 57 touches, with Rhamondre Stevenson ahead of him in the backfield.

His most recent game was the loss to Chicago on 22 October, when he recorded five touches for 23 yards across 12 snaps, according to NFL.com. Without Henderson against Miami, the Patriots used Stevenson, Corey Kiner and practice-squad call-up Lan Larison. New England and Green Bay both enter Sunday’s meeting at Gillette Stadium with 5-3 records.
