Melbourne chose to field after winning the toss, and Adelaide's opening pair put on 54 before Maia Bouchier was dismissed for 30 from 21 balls. Bouchier struck five fours before Annabel Sutherland took a return catch off her own bowling in the seventh over. Wolvaardt continued alongside captain Tahlia McGrath, with the pair taking the score to 136 before the second wicket fell.

Wolvaardt faced 50 deliveries and hit nine fours in her innings. Kim Garth ended her stay on the first ball of the 18th over, with Sutherland taking the catch. That left Penna to join McGrath for the closing stages, and Adelaide added 49 runs without losing another wicket to complete their 20 overs.

Penna's acceleration included four fours and three sixes, while McGrath finished unbeaten on 43 from 36 deliveries, including six boundaries. The Strikers received six extras. Garth returned 1-27 from four overs, while Sutherland's four overs cost 40 runs for her one wicket. Charlie Dean conceded 25 from her four overs without taking a wicket, the lowest economy rate among the Stars bowlers.

Melbourne's reply began with a 77-run opening partnership between Rhys McKenna and Meg Lanning. Amanda-Jade Wellington removed Lanning leg before wicket for 32 from 24 balls and then dismissed Amy Jones for two in the same over, with Sophie Ecclestone taking the catch. Ecclestone subsequently bowled McKenna for 40 from 31 deliveries, leaving the Stars 92-3.

Sutherland made 29 from 19 balls before becoming Wellington's third wicket, caught by Bouchier at 124-4. Naomi Stalenberg was unbeaten on 11 at the scorecard checkpoint. Wellington's figures stood at 3-14 from 2.4 overs, while Ecclestone had 1-9 from two. Those wickets left Melbourne with six in hand for the remaining chase, with no final result yet recorded.
