Wolves Lose Kieran Trippier and Yerson Mosquera to Ligament Injuries
Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that Kieran Trippier suffered a medial collateral ligament injury in his left knee during Friday’s 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers. BBC Sport reported that the right-back is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks after being hurt on his league debut for the club.
Trippier joined Wolves on a free transfer in June and signed a two-year contract at Molineux. The former England international is 35, and his first league appearance for Wolves ended with the club now facing a spell without him while the knee ligament injury heals. Wolves did not provide a more precise return date.
The same match also left Wolves with another injury in defence. Yerson Mosquera sustained a slight tear to his ankle ligaments against Blackburn, according to the club update reported by BBC Sport. The 25-year-old is expected to miss several weeks, leaving both defenders unavailable over the coming part of the schedule.
Wolves director of performance Phil Hayward also provided an update on winger Rafiki Said. The 26-year-old summer signing suffered a high-grade medial collateral ligament injury during a preseason friendly against Maidenhead United last month, only 11 days after he arrived at Wolves. He has spent recent weeks working in the gym while wearing a brace.
Hayward said Said is now out of the brace and that his latest scan showed encouraging progress. The update did not set a date for his return to match action, but Hayward indicated that the winger’s recovery was moving in the right direction. Said’s rehabilitation therefore continues as Wolves manage the new injuries to Trippier and Mosquera.
There was also updated information on two other members of the squad. Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was described as being one week away from full fitness. Haiti international midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was said to be another two weeks away from returning to first-team training. Those timelines, like the estimates for Trippier and Mosquera, came from the Wolves injury update reported by BBC Sport.
