World Baseball Classic Finale Attendance Costs Soar to $1,627 for Two Fans as Miami Hotel Prices Surge 59 Percent
An Action Network analysis reveals the financial burden of attending the USA-Venezuela championship game, with accommodation premiums accounting for over 40 percent of total expenses.

Baseball fans who made the pilgrimage to Miami for the World Baseball Classic finale discovered that witnessing international baseball history came with a substantial financial price tag, according to comprehensive analysis from The Action Network that reveals the true cost of major sporting events.

The average expense for two people attending the March 17 championship game between Team USA and Venezuela reached $1,627, a figure that underscores how premium sporting events can dramatically impact local economies while creating significant financial barriers for fans.

Accommodations emerged as the single largest expense category, accounting for more than 40 percent of the total trip cost and highlighting the economic ripple effects that major international tournaments generate in host cities. Miami area hotels and rental properties capitalized on the increased demand with dramatic price increases that caught many visitors off guard.

Hotel prices on Booking.com surged 59 percent during the championship weekend, while Airbnb listings experienced a 52.9 percent increase compared to typical rates. The accommodation premium imposed specifically because of the World Baseball Classic reached $241, demonstrating how event-driven demand can fundamentally alter local pricing structures.

The Action Network's comprehensive survey analyzed 2,530 Miami area listings across both Airbnb and Booking.com platforms, comparing prices for the March 16-18 championship weekend against a control period of March 23-25 to isolate the event's impact on accommodation costs.

Ticketing represented the second-largest expense category, with two seats for the finale estimated at $890. This premium pricing reflected both the significance of the championship game and the relative rarity of international baseball competition featuring Major League Baseball stars at the peak of their abilities.

Beyond primary expenses, fans faced additional charges that quickly accumulated throughout their Miami experience. Parking at loanDepot Park cost $15, while stadium concessions commanded premium prices with two hot dogs and sodas priced at $8 each and beer reaching $10 per serving.

The projected accommodation costs revealed stark disparities between event weekend and normal pricing periods. Two nights during the championship weekend averaged $696.07, while identical stays a week later dropped to $455.17, representing a difference of nearly $241 that directly reflected tournament demand.

LoanDepot Park, the regular-season home of the Miami Marlins, provided an interesting contrast in attendance patterns. The downtown Miami stadium's largest previous crowd reached 37,446 during the 2017 World Baseball Classic, far exceeding typical Marlins attendance figures.

The Marlins organization has struggled to generate consistent fan interest despite playing in a modern facility, averaging just 14,282 supporters per game during the 2025 season. Their total home attendance of 1,156,880 ranked worst in the National League for the fifth consecutive year, highlighting the franchise's ongoing challenges in connecting with their local market.

This attendance disparity illustrates the unique appeal of international competition compared to routine regular-season games. The World Baseball Classic draws fans who might never attend a Marlins game, creating temporary but significant economic activity that local businesses eagerly anticipate.

The tournament's economic impact extends beyond direct spending to broader tourism and hospitality sectors. Restaurants, transportation services, and retail establishments all benefit from the influx of visitors willing to pay premium prices for unique experiences.

For Team USA, the finale represented an opportunity to capture their second World Baseball Classic title, having previously won in 2017. Venezuela sought their first championship in tournament history, creating compelling storylines that justified the premium costs for many dedicated fans.

Japan has dominated the competition historically with three championships, including the most recent in 2023, establishing the World Baseball Classic as a legitimate international tournament that rivals Olympic baseball in prestige and fan interest.
