World Snooker Championship 2026: Quarterfinalists Confirmed After Thrilling Second Round
The World Snooker Championship quarterfinal lineup has been confirmed following a dramatic second round that saw several seeds tumble and emerging talents advance to the sport's grandest stage.

The World Snooker Championship has delivered another day of compelling action as the quarterfinal lineup takes shape at the Crucible Theatre. The second round concluded with a series of thrilling finishes that have set up what promises to be an electrifying final eight.

In the standout match of the day, Ronnie O'Sullivan continued his pursuit of an eighth world title by opening up a commanding four-frame lead against John Higgins after the first session of their second-round encounter. The Rocket's imperious break-building saw him compile runs of 127, 89, and 76 as he established early control of the contest.

"I'm pleased with how I'm playing," O'Sullivan commented during the interval. "John is a class act and he'll come back fighting, but I'm focused on my own game and keeping things simple."

The draw has thrown up several fascinating quarterfinal potential matchups, with Marco Fuo's victory over Ding Junhui setting up a mouth-watering clash with either Mark Selby or Mark Allen. The tournament has seen its share of upsets, with multiple top-10 seeds already eliminated.

Brett Curtis continued his remarkable debut appearance at the Crucible, defeating former finalist Barry Hawkins to become the lowest-ranked player to reach the quarterfinals since 2005. The world number 47 has credited his transformation under a new coaching regime for his breakthrough performance.

"When I first walked into the Crucible, I was terrified," Curtis admitted. "But I've been working on my mental approach and it's paying off. Every match here is a learning experience."

The tournament schedule for the coming days will see quarterfinal matches contested over two sessions, with the best-of-25 frames format testing both endurance and consistency. Defending champion Luca Brecel faces a stern test against in-form Kyren Wilson in what many consider the tie of the round.

Daily results and updated brackets are being processed throughout the championship, with live coverage continuing across all platforms. The event, which runs until the final on May 4, remains on track to break attendance records for the third consecutive year.
