Yazin, trained by Dan Skolmen, has won four of his last five starts over fences, with his only defeat coming when second at Kempton Park in February. The eight-year-old gelding has beenvrilliant in recent weeks, displaying the kind of stamina and jumping ability that marks him out as a future star of the staying chase division.
Golden View, meanwhile, represents the emerging power of Richard Bandey and has improved markedly since stepping up in trip this season. The seven-year-old mare finished a close third behind subsequent Grand National runner in a staying contest at Warwick last month, and connections believe she is primed for a career-best performance on the Fibresand track.
Southwell's unique all-weather surface adds an intriguing tactical dimension to the contest. Both horses have proven versatile regarding underfoot conditions, though the switch to the fibresand presents a new challenge neither has faced previously at this level.
"Both horses have come out of their recent races in excellent shape," Skolmen told the Racing Post. "The step up to three miles on this unique surface will suit them both. It's a proper test of stamina and class."
The race is scheduled as the fifth on Thursday's card, with a 2:15 PM local time start. Both horses carry 11st 10lb, with Yazin receiving a 7lb weight-for-age concession given his age advantage.
