Terry Devlin scored twice as Portsmouth beat Swansea 3-1, denying the visitors top spot in the Championship. Birmingham and Norwich also won convincingly on a busy night of league action.

Portsmouth beat Swansea 3-1 at Fratton Park after two stoppage-time goals settled a match that had been level with five minutes of normal time remaining. Terry Devlin scored twice as the hosts extended their unbeaten run to six games, according to the Press Association's Championship roundup published by The Guardian. The defeat prevented Swansea from moving into first place, leaving Middlesbrough at the top ahead of their Wednesday fixture.

Devlin gave Portsmouth a first-half lead, but Swansea responded late through Zan Vipotnik. Last season's leading Championship scorer won a penalty and converted it in the 85th minute. Portsmouth recovered to take all three points: Devlin scored from a corner in the second minute of added time, and Tommy Waddingham added the third six minutes later to end Swansea's hopes of a result.

Birmingham secured a 3-0 home win over Millwall with all their goals arriving before half-time. Alex Cochrane struck inside the opening minute, followed by Max Bird and Jay Stansfield. The result was Birmingham's sixth victory in eight games and kept them unbeaten through their first seven home Championship matches. They achieved it despite the absence of seven-goal striker August Priske, who had a knee problem.

At the Hawthorns, Southampton fought back to draw 1-1 with West Brom. Isaac Price put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot for his fifth goal of the season, while Southampton failed to attempt a shot before the interval. Samuel Edozie equalised after the break as the visitors improved. Both sides missed opportunities to win a match that could have taken either into the top two, but each preserved an unbeaten run.

Norwich won 4-0 at Derby, recording a third successive victory and leaving the home side with four defeats in five matches. Anthony Musaba, Paris Maghoma and Darlin Yongwa all scored before half-time, with substitute Jovon Makama adding the fourth. Derby remained on just one league win this season, with John Eustace's side next facing Bolton at home on Friday.

Sydie Peck's first-half hat-trick helped Sheffield United win 3-2 at Preston and secure consecutive victories for the first time this season. Leo Leroy had given Preston an early lead before Peck scored three times between the 27th minute and the interval. Callum Lang reduced the deficit in the 77th minute, but Preston could not equalise, leaving new manager Graham Alexander with one point from a possible 18.
