Scheffler Surges to Five-Shot Lead with Bogey-Free 64 at Bay Hill
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler fired a flawless 8-under 64 to take commanding control of the Arnold Palmer Invitational heading into the final round.

Scottie Scheffler reminded everyone why he holds the top ranking in professional golf today, carding a bogey-free 8-under 64 to open up a commanding five-shot lead entering the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club & Lodge. The world No. 1's third-round masterpiece featured eight birdies and showcased the complete game that has made him the sport's most consistent performer over the past two seasons.

Scheffler's round began quietly with two pars before he caught fire on the par-5 third hole, where his approach shot from 178 yards landed just four feet from the pin for an easy eagle putt. The 29-year-old Texan never looked back, adding birdies at the sixth, eighth, 10th, 12th, 15th, and 16th holes to pull away from a quality field that includes major champions Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Viktor Hovland.

The most impressive aspect of Scheffler's performance was his precision on Bay Hill's notoriously difficult greens. He required just 24 putts for the round while hitting 15 of 18 greens in regulation, a combination that has proven nearly unbeatable throughout his recent dominance. His lone miss on the greens came at the par-3 17th, where he still managed to get up and down for par from the greenside bunker.

"I felt really comfortable out there today," Scheffler said after signing his scorecard. "My iron play was dialed in, and when you're hitting it close on these greens, you can make some putts. Tomorrow is going to be challenging because this is a tough golf course, but I like where my game is right now."

The chasing pack is led by Tony Finau and Max Homa, who both sit at 10-under par following rounds of 69 and 68 respectively. Both players will need something special on Sunday to catch Scheffler, who has converted four of his last six 54-hole leads into victories. McIlroy, meanwhile, struggled to a 72 and finds himself nine shots back, likely ending his hopes of claiming his first Arnold Palmer Invitational title.

Scheffler's dominant position puts him in excellent shape to capture his second victory of the young season and extend his remarkable run of success at Bay Hill, where he finished second in 2024. With favorable weather conditions expected for Sunday's final round, all eyes will be on whether the world No. 1 can close out another commanding victory or if someone from the chasing pack can produce the round of their life to mount a serious challenge. Given his recent track record in these situations, Scheffler appears destined to add another trophy to his already impressive collection.
