Buffalo Bills Trade Stefon Diggs to Houston Texans in Blockbuster Deal Worth Three Draft Picks
The star wide receiver heads to Houston in exchange for a first-round pick and two additional selections as the Bills reshape their offense.

The Buffalo Bills sent shockwaves through the NFL on Friday evening, trading Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick, 2026 third-round pick, and 2027 second-round pick in a blockbuster deal that immediately transforms both franchises and reshapes the AFC playoff landscape.

Diggs, who has been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL since joining Buffalo in 2020, reportedly requested the trade after growing frustrated with his role in the Bills offense and seeking a fresh start with a young, ascending team. The 30-year-old Maryland product has caught 445 passes for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns during his four seasons in Buffalo.

I am incredibly excited about this new opportunity in Houston and the chance to work with C.J. Stroud and this talented young core, Diggs said in a statement released through his agent. Buffalo will always hold a special place in my heart, but I believe this move gives both teams the best chance to achieve their championship goals.

The trade represents a massive coup for the Texans, who add an elite veteran presence to complement second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud and an emerging receiving corps that includes Tank Dell and Nico Collins. Diggs arrival gives Houston one of the most dynamic offensive attacks in the AFC and positions them as legitimate playoff contenders in a competitive conference.

For Buffalo, the trade creates significant salary cap relief while providing valuable draft capital to address needs across the roster. The Bills will save approximately $24 million against the salary cap while acquiring picks that can help them build around quarterback Josh Allen and maintain their status as perennial playoff contenders despite losing their top offensive weapon.

Bills General Manager Brandon Beane defended the difficult decision during an impromptu press conference, emphasizing that the trade allows the organization to build sustainable success while remaining competitive in the short term. Stefon is a tremendous player and person who contributed greatly to our success, Beane said. This trade gives us flexibility to address multiple positions and continue building toward a championship.

Texans Head Coach DeMeco Ryans expressed enthusiasm about adding Diggs to an offense that ranked among the most improved units in the NFL last season. Having a receiver of Stefon caliber will accelerate our development and give C.J. another elite weapon to work with, Ryans said. This move demonstrates our commitment to competing at the highest level immediately.

The trade is expected to be finalized once Diggs passes a physical examination and finalizes contract adjustments with his new team, with both franchises anticipating the deal will be completed before the start of the new league year next week.
