The American star, who won this event in 2012, showcased the form that made her a major champion with a flawless round that included seven birdies and just one bogey. Korda's ball-striking was particularly impressive, hitting 16 of 18 greens in regulation.
"The conditions were perfect today," Korda said after her round. "The course is in great shape, and I felt very comfortable out there. I gave myself a lot of good looks, and when you do that, the putts tend to fall."
Korda's strong start puts her one shot ahead of a crowded leaderboard that includes major champions and rising stars. Fellow American Lexi Thompson sits in second place after a 5-under 67, while defending champion Min Woo Lee is among a group at 4-under.
The Chevron Championship marks the first major of the year on the LPGA Tour, and Korda's early pace-setting performance has drawn praise from competitors and analysts alike.
"Jessica played exceptional golf today," said LPGA Tour commissioner Mollie McCarty. "To come out and post a score like that in the first round of a major is a testament to her preparation and focus. She's certainly put herself in a great position."
Korda will look to maintain her momentum when the second round begins early Thursday morning, with favorable conditions expected to continue at Carlton Woods.
