Iga Swiatek Advances to BNP Paribas Open Final After Dominant Victory Over Jessica Pegula
The world No. 1 needed just 73 minutes to defeat the American in straight sets, extending her winning streak to 15 matches.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek continued her dominant form on Friday evening, dismantling Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells to reach her third consecutive final at the prestigious tournament and extend her current winning streak to an impressive 15 matches.

The Polish superstar was in complete control from the opening game, breaking Pegula's serve twice in the first set while showcasing the relentless baseline power and court coverage that has made her the most feared player on the WTA Tour. Swiatek's forehand was particularly devastating, generating 28 winners compared to just 12 unforced errors in a clinical 73-minute performance.

"I felt really good out there tonight," Swiatek said during her on-court interview. "Jessica is always a tough opponent, but I was able to execute my game plan perfectly. My serve was working well, and I was able to be aggressive from the baseline. I'm excited to be back in another final here at Indian Wells."

Pegula, the American No. 1 and tournament sixth seed, had no answers for Swiatek's intensity and precision. The Buffalo native, who had been playing some of the best tennis of her career leading into the semifinal, managed to win just three games and appeared overwhelmed by the pace and placement of Swiatek's groundstrokes throughout the lopsided encounter.

The victory sets up a mouthwatering final between Swiatek and either Aryna Sabalenka or Elena Rybakina, who were scheduled to play in the second semifinal later Friday night. Swiatek has won her last six finals and appears to be hitting peak form just as the tour enters its most important stretch leading up to the French Open, where she is the defending champion.

Swiatek's dominance at Indian Wells has been particularly impressive, as she has dropped just one set through six matches and has spent only 7 hours and 23 minutes on court throughout the entire tournament. Her efficient style of play and overwhelming baseline power have left opponents searching for answers, with many describing her current level as reminiscent of her dominant 2022 season when she won eight titles including Roland Garros.

The 24-year-old from Warsaw has now reached 18 WTA finals in her career and has won 15 of them, including five WTA 1000 titles. Her performance at Indian Wells has reinforced her status as the clear favorite for the upcoming clay court season and the French Open, where she will be seeking her fourth title at Roland Garros and her sixth Grand Slam championship overall. Sunday's final is scheduled for 1:00 PM Pacific Time.
