Miami Heat Acquire All-Star Guard Tyler Herro in Three-Team Trade Shakeup
The Miami Heat completed a stunning three-team trade Tuesday evening that brings former Sixth Man of the Year Tyler Herro back to South Beach, while reshuffling rosters across the Eastern and Western Conferences in one of the most complex deals of the 2026 NBA season.
The intricate trade sees Herro returning to Miami from the Portland Trail Blazers, where he spent the past 18 months. The Heat send veteran forward Jimmy Butler and two future second-round picks to the Sacramento Kings, while Portland receives Kings guard De'Aaron Fox and rookie sensation Scoot Henderson moves from Portland to Sacramento.
"Tyler understands our culture and system better than anyone," Heat President Pat Riley said during an emergency press conference at FTX Arena. "His shooting ability and basketball IQ make him the perfect complement to Bam Adebayo and our young core. This trade positions us for both immediate success and long-term sustainability."
Herro, who averaged 24.1 points and 5.8 assists in 47 games with Portland this season, expressed excitement about returning to the organization that drafted him in 2019. "Miami will always be home," Herro posted on social media. "I can't wait to get back to work with Coach Spoelstra and bring another championship to this incredible city."
The move comes as the Heat (28-24) sit seventh in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, desperately needing offensive firepower to complement their defensive identity. Herro's return gives them a proven scorer who understands Erik Spoelstra's system and provides the floor spacing Miami has lacked this season.
For Portland, acquiring Fox signals their commitment to building around young talent, pairing the explosive point guard with rising star Anfernee Simons in what could become one of the league's most dynamic backcourts. Sacramento's addition of Butler and Henderson gives them veteran leadership and promising youth as they push for their first playoff appearance since 2023.
The trade must be completed by Thursday's 5 PM deadline, with all three teams expecting their new acquisitions to be available for weekend games as the playoff race intensifies across both conferences.
