Portsmouth scored twice in stoppage time to beat Swansea 3-1 and deny them the Championship lead. Sydie Peck’s first-half hat-trick helped Sheffield United win 3-2 at Preston.

Swansea missed the opportunity to move to the top of the Championship after Portsmouth scored twice in stoppage time to secure a 3-1 victory at Fratton Park. Terry Devlin finished with two goals as Portsmouth extended their unbeaten run to six matches, according to the Guardian’s report of Tuesday’s games. Middlesbrough remained in first place ahead of their Wednesday fixture.

Devlin put Portsmouth ahead in the first half, but Swansea drew level when Zan Vipotnik won and converted a penalty in the 85th minute. Devlin restored the home side’s advantage from a corner in the second minute of added time. Tommy Waddingham then scored six minutes later to complete the victory after Swansea’s late equaliser had briefly changed the course of the match.

At Deepdale, Sydie Peck scored all three Sheffield United goals before half-time in a 3-2 win over Preston. Leo Leroy had given the hosts a second-minute lead before Peck equalised with an intended cross in the 27th minute. He struck again from outside the penalty area 10 minutes later and completed his hat-trick with a close-range finish just before the interval. Callum Lang reduced the deficit in the 77th minute, but United secured consecutive wins for the first time this season.

Birmingham beat Millwall 3-0 after scoring all their goals in the first half at St Andrew’s. Alex Cochrane opened the scoring inside a minute, with Max Bird and Jay Stansfield also on target. The result brought Birmingham a sixth win in eight matches and extended their unbeaten home start in the Championship to seven games.

Norwich recorded a third successive victory by beating Derby 4-0 at Pride Park. Anthony Musaba, Paris Maghoma and Darlin Yongwa scored before half-time, and substitute Jovon Makama added the fourth. Derby’s defeat was their fourth in five matches, leaving them with only one win this season and adding to the difficulties facing head coach John Eustace.

Southampton and West Brom drew 1-1 at the Hawthorns, where Samuel Edozie cancelled out Isaac Price’s first-half penalty. A victory would have taken either side into the top two. Elsewhere, Stoke held on to beat Blackburn 2-1 for their eighth win in 11, while QPR recovered to draw 1-1 with Burnley and deny Fabio Celestini his first victory as their head coach.
