Manchester City Extends Premier League Lead with Dominant 3-0 Victory
Pep Guardiola team delivered a masterful performance against Liverpool, opening up a crucial 7-point gap at the top of the table.

Manchester City took a giant step toward their fifth Premier League title in seven years with a commanding 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The result extends City lead at the top of the table to seven points with just 12 matches remaining in the season.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a trademark finish, capitalizing on a perfectly weighted through ball from Kevin De Bruyne. The Norwegian striker has now scored 28 goals in 26 Premier League appearances this season, putting him on pace to break his own single-season record.

Phil Foden doubled the advantage just before halftime with a curling effort from the edge of the box that left Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson with no chance. The England international has been in scintillating form recently, contributing 15 goals and 8 assists across all competitions this campaign.

Liverpool struggled to create meaningful chances throughout the match, with City dominant midfield trio of Rodri, De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva controlling the tempo. Jurgen Klopp side managed just two shots on target despite enjoying 47 percent possession.

Riyad Mahrez sealed the victory in the 68th minute, converting from close range after excellent work down the right flank from Kyle Walker. The Algerian winger celebration was subdued, perhaps acknowledging the significance of the goal in the title race.

The victory was particularly impressive given that City were without several key players including John Stones and Jack Grealish due to injury. Pep Guardiola tactical adjustments proved masterful, with his team pressing high and forcing Liverpool into numerous turnovers in dangerous areas.

For Liverpool, the defeat represents a significant blow to their title aspirations. The Reds have now lost three of their last five Premier League matches and will need a dramatic turnaround to catch their rivals. Manager Jurgen Klopp acknowledged after the match that his team was simply outplayed by a superior opponent on the day.
