England defeated Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs inside three days at Headingley after another decisive performance from their fast bowlers. The Guardian reported that Pakistan were dismissed for 135 in their second innings after England had made 409, giving Joe Root a convincing victory on his return to the Test captaincy.

Pakistan had scored 171 in their first innings, leaving England with a lead of 238 when the hosts were eventually bowled out. The match lasted 175.3 overs in total, with Pakistan unable to build a sustained response against an England seam attack that controlled both innings.

Jofra Archer made the first breakthrough of Pakistan's second innings with his fifth delivery, removing Imam-ul-Haq before Pakistan had scored. Archer later dismissed Azan Awais for nine after Root positioned himself at leg slip, and he finished with three wickets in the innings.

Josh Tongue also claimed three wickets, returning figures of three for 43 and completing an eight-wicket match. He removed Saud Shakeel for 14, found the edge of Shan Masood for 29 and trapped Salman Ali Agha leg before wicket for one as Pakistan's resistance faded.

Ollie Robinson joined Archer and Tongue with three wickets in the second innings. According to The Guardian's match report, Robinson finished with eight for 80 across the two innings. England's four-bowler pace group offered a combination of Robinson's control and greater speed from the other seamers, while Pakistan's attack and fielding were unable to apply the same pressure.

England's 409 included four batters passing 50 without reaching a century, including Root. Archer also added 23 runs early on the third day before England's innings ended. The resulting advantage gave the bowlers ample room to attack, and Pakistan's second collapse completed a one-sided opening Test before the end of Friday's play.
