Mohamed Salah scored his first two goals for Trabzonspor in a 2-1 Super Lig victory, while Harry Kane was voted Germany's 2026 player of the year. Juventus also opened its Serie A season with a win and 10-man Atletico Madrid drew with Villarreal.

Mohamed Salah scored his first goals for Trabzonspor in a 2-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday, headlining a busy day across European football. The Guardian and agencies reported that the former Liverpool forward struck once in each half after earning his first start for the Turkish club.

Salah opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Eldor Shomurodov equalized from the penalty spot in the 19th. Salah restored Trabzonspor's lead three minutes after halftime, and his second goal proved decisive. He joined the Super Lig club on a two-year deal at the beginning of August and made his debut as a substitute in a 1-1 draw at Kasimpasa the previous week. Trabzonspor is due to return to league action against Amed SK on August 31.

In Italy, Juventus began its Serie A season with a 1-0 away victory over newly promoted Frosinone. Gleison Bremer headed the only goal in the 22nd minute for Luciano Spalletti's side. Juventus controlled much of the match but could not extend its lead, and Frosinone hit the crossbar during a late push after goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario left with a leg injury.

Atletico Madrid recovered to draw 2-2 with Villarreal despite Robin Le Normand's dismissal. Marc Pubill put Atletico ahead in the 59th minute, but Gerard Moreno equalized from the penalty spot. Villarreal then moved in front through a Georges Mikautadze penalty after a VAR review led to Le Normand being sent off. Giuliano Simeone scored with five minutes of normal time remaining to secure a point for Atletico.

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane was also voted Germany's 2026 player of the year in a poll conducted among members of the Association of German Sports Journalists, with the results published by Kicker. Kane finished ahead of Bayern teammate Michael Olise after a season in which Bayern won the Bundesliga and German Cup and reached the Champions League semifinals. The Guardian reported that Kane scored 61 club goals in all competitions during that campaign.

Kane became the first Englishman to receive the award. Bayern's Vincent Kompany was named coach of the year, while Bayern women's captain Giulia Gwinn won the female player award. The honors followed Bayern's 2-1 German Super Cup victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, a match in which Kane featured.
