The American star carded a solid 2-under-par 70 in Saturday's third round, showcasing her composure under pressure despite challenging conditions with gusty winds throughout the afternoon. Korda's total of 15-under-par 201 leaves her firmly in control as she attempts to capture her first major title since rejoining the tour following a brief injury setback earlier this season.
"I've been working really hard on my mental game," Korda said after her round. "Being patient out there and trusting my process has been key. Five shots isn't a huge margin, anything can happen, so I need to stay focused and stick to my game plan."
World number two Lexi Thompson lies in second place at 10-under-par, having posted a battling 71 on Saturday. The veteran American, still seeking her first major victory, will tee off in the final group alongside Korda in what promises to be a thrilling climax to the tournament.
Inglis Medal favourite Rose Zhang sits third at 8-under-par after a magnificent 68, while Japan's Yuka Saso and China's Ruoning Yin share fourth place at 6-under-par. Former champion Patty Tavatanakit also remains in contention at 5-under-par.
The Chevron Championship, traditionally hosted at the Ralph Pletcher-designed layout, has produced exciting finishes in recent years, and with five players within nine shots of the lead, the final round promises drama. Korda's ability to close out tournaments has been questioned in the past, making Sunday's final 18 holes a crucial test of her championship mettle.
"Nelly has been playing tremendous golf all week," said LPGA Tour commissioner Mollie McCarty. "The way she's handled the pressure and executed under difficult conditions shows how much she's grown as a player. We're witnessing something special this weekend."
