Arshdeep Singh took four wickets and Gurnoor Brar three in Auckland. Rain later interrupted India’s pursuit of 186 in the first ODI.

India bowled New Zealand out for 185 in 40.2 overs in the first one-day international at Eden Park on Wednesday, with Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar sharing seven wickets. The hosts' completed innings left India a target of 186 in Auckland, although rain later interrupted the chase.

Captain Shubman Gill chose to field after winning the toss, as confirmed by the BCCI match centre. Arshdeep finished with four wickets for 70 runs from 10 overs and Brar took three for 44 from 9.2. PTI's report, published by Rediff, said New Zealand reached only 45 for two during the opening 10 overs.

Arshdeep removed Will Young and Henry Nicholls for nine apiece. Brar then dismissed Tim Seifert and held a return catch to remove Tom Latham. Daryl Mitchell contributed 28 before being run out, with Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper KL Rahul combining to complete the dismissal, according to PTI.

Anshul Kamboj supplied sustained control alongside those breakthroughs. Crictracker reported that his 10 overs cost just 22 runs and included two maidens and 46 dot balls. He dismissed Mitchell Santner and Nathan Smith, giving him two wickets, while Axar Patel conceded 12 runs across five overs. Kamboj's economy rate for the innings was 2.20 runs per over.

Seifert's 38 from 43 balls was New Zealand's highest individual score. Glenn Phillips made 30 from 51 deliveries, while Blair Tickner provided late runs with 34 from 23 balls, including four sixes, Crictracker reported. Those contributions lifted the total but did not allow the home side to use its full allocation of 50 overs.

The BBC Sport scorecard subsequently showed rain had stopped India's reply after 10.5 overs, with nine wickets remaining and another 132 runs required. Rohit had been dismissed for nought in the first over, while Gill was on 17 and Virat Kohli on 29. That was an interrupted chase, not a completed result: India's bowling performance had established the target, but the match outcome remained unsettled at the reported stoppage.
