Tiger Woods Makes the Cut at The Players Championship Despite Early Struggles
The 15-time major champion battled through windy conditions at TPC Sawgrass to secure weekend play after a rollercoaster second round.

Tiger Woods showed flashes of his legendary resilience Tuesday, grinding out a hard-fought even-par 72 in challenging conditions at TPC Sawgrass to make the cut at The Players Championship by a single stroke.

The 48-year-old golf icon appeared to be in serious trouble early in his second round, dropping three shots in his first seven holes as swirling winds wreaked havoc on the Stadium Course. Woods struggled with his iron play and putting, looking every bit like a player who had been away from competitive golf for extended periods.

"The conditions were brutal out there today," Woods said after signing his scorecard. "The wind was switching directions constantly, and you really had to stay patient and grind through it. I'm proud of how I fought back and gave myself a chance to play on the weekend."

The turning point came at the par-5 9th hole, where Woods drained a 25-foot eagle putt that sent the gallery into a frenzy. The shot sparked a remarkable back-nine comeback that included three more birdies, including a spectacular approach shot to within three feet on the treacherous 17th island green.

Woods finished the round at 2-over par for the tournament, exactly on the cut line as the field was trimmed to the low 70 players and ties. His two-day total of 146 puts him eight shots behind leader Scottie Scheffler, but Woods has repeatedly proven throughout his career that weekend charges are never out of the question.

The five-time Players Championship winner will need to summon his best golf over the final two rounds to contend for what would be his 83rd PGA Tour victory. Despite the physical and mental challenges he has faced in recent years, Woods's presence alone elevates the tournament and provides hope for one of golf's greatest comeback stories.

With ideal weather conditions forecast for the weekend, Woods will look to capitalize on his momentum and provide the type of drama that has made him one of sport's most compelling figures for over two decades.
