Kansas City Chiefs Sign Patrick Mahomes to Record-Breaking Contract Extension Through 2034
The Kansas City Chiefs have made NFL history by signing quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a record-breaking contract extension that will keep the three-time Super Bowl champion in Kansas City through the 2034 season. The 12-year deal, worth an estimated $720 million with $400 million guaranteed, surpasses all previous records in professional sports.
The announcement comes just two weeks after the Chiefs' victory in Super Bowl LXI, where Mahomes threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns in a 31-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills. The extension ensures that the 30-year-old quarterback will spend his entire prime years with the franchise that drafted him in 2017.
"Patrick has redefined what it means to be a franchise quarterback," said Chiefs general manager Brett Veach. "This contract reflects not just his incredible on-field performance, but his leadership, his impact on our community, and his role in building a championship culture here in Kansas City."
Mahomes, who already had two years remaining on his previous contract, will now be tied to the Chiefs until he's 39 years old. The deal includes unprecedented performance incentives and opt-out clauses that could push the total value even higher based on team success and individual achievements.
The contract structure is designed to give the Chiefs flexibility to continue building around Mahomes while maintaining a competitive roster. "We've structured this deal to ensure we can keep adding talent around Patrick," explained team president Mark Donovan.
"Kansas City is home, and I can't imagine playing anywhere else," Mahomes said at the press conference. "This organization has given me everything I need to succeed, and I'm committed to bringing more championships to this incredible fanbase. We're just getting started."
The signing ceremony at Arrowhead Stadium drew thousands of fans, with many camping out overnight for the chance to witness the historic announcement. The deal solidifies Kansas City's position as a long-term contender and sets a new benchmark for quarterback contracts across the league.
